SunLīt® Solar Illumination and Power System

 We have developed a portable, solar-powered lighting and electronics charging station.The SunLīt® Solar Illumination and Power System can be deployed rapidly, at low cost in individual dwellings or disaster areas to supply sufficient power to illuminate a standard-sized living room for 12-18 hours.  All that is required to recharge the system is exposure to sunlight. We accomplished this through the use of modern, high-efficiency photovoltaic panels, advanced microelectronics, and high efficiency, high brightness light emitting diode (LED) technology. Cell/satellite phones, portable computers, and medical instrumentation can be recharged via a standard marine cigarette lighter or a type A USB power jack. The device is ruggedized for field deployment, manufactured from Mil Spec parts, and housed in an IP67 enclosure. 

 Power Distribution

Power transmission disruptions (through unpredictable acts of weather/geology/warfare) leave the local populace, aid workers, and NGOs with no power for lighting and charging of critical electronic communication and medical devices. In such cases, communications breakdown, and aid delivery is severely hampered. Just such a scenario was recently played out in Haiti.

 The SunLīt® Solar Illumination and Power System uses solar power to charge a type 27 storage battery during daylight hours, which is then used to power a high brightness LED array and two charging ports. The LED consumes 12 Watts (1.2A at 10V), and the two charging ports are able to support 14.5 Watts (0.5A at 5V for the USB port, and 1 A at 12V for the lighter jack). A standard type 27 storage battery can supply continuous power for approximately 20 hours under full load.

Luminaire

 

The LED technology currently available produces 700 lumens of illumination, roughly equivalent to a 60 Watt incandescent lamp- sufficient to illuminate a standard living room or field operatory. Additional illumination can be achieved by adding more LED lights to the 12V rail. 

 

Our solution is portable, rugged, and energy-efficient. It provides a temporary to semi-permanent solution for areas where electrical access is has been lost, is limited, or unpredictable. The rated life span of the device is 12-25 years of continuous use, it has no moving parts, and requires no maintenance.
